Boxing benefits our young people in many ways. It improves fitness levels; teaches teamwork, anger management, discipline and resilience. Boxing training also improves confidence, concentration and personal motivation. Our boxing coaches succeed with young people in this role because young people look up to and respect the strong role models within the boxing gym. Our coaches a role models for respect for others, discipline, responsibility, hard work, punctuality, and kindness.
Our coaches support their students both in the gym and through 1-to-1 intensive personal support, which provides consistency throughout the sessions they have with us. Our coaches are recruited locally, trained by our lead practitioner Paddy Fitzpatrick and experienced in dealing with young people as they have often developed through the training programmes at the gym themselves. We also have experienced educational and well-being specialists working with us. We develop strong relationships with our young people which acts as a foundation from which the students can build their self-esteem and start a positive cycle of achievement and growth.
We are a small, bespoke coaching environment which reflects our beginnings as a boxing gym. Like boxing we use a system of clear and respectful boundaries for conduct on our site which is based on a “can do” attitude and positive thinking. Our emphasis is on personal development and growth, and managing the challenges that life brings to us, so that all of our young people can achieve good outcomes that will support their future opportunities and benefit their community.
We also extend these values into the wider community with our adult training sessions and community activities as we know that the nest community cohesion can be achieved by removing the barriers created by age, gender, race and other background influences – and ensuring that everyone in our community can work together in a safe space to lead a healthy and productive life.
